3-3 Draw for New Jersey United AC and Player Development Academy

New Jersey United Athletic Club mounted a spirited second-half comeback on Saturday afternoon at Saint Joseph High School, but a stoppage-time equalizer from Player Development Academy denied the hosts all three points in a thrilling 3-3 draw.

PDA controlled much of the opening half and carried a 1-0 advantage into the break, forcing New Jersey United to chase the match over the final 45 minutes.

The response came almost immediately after halftime.  In the 49th minute, Jamie Madrid found the equalizer, finishing off a quality attacking move to bring New Jersey United level at 1-1 and inject new life into the contest.

PDA answered by reclaiming the lead at 2-1, putting the pressure back on the home side. But New Jersey United never backed down.

Deep into stoppage time, Sora Taenaka rose above the defense to power home a header, tying the match at 2-2 and keeping United’s hopes alive.  Moments later, Taenaka struck again, finding the winner—or so it seemed—with another stoppage-time finish to complete his brace and give New Jersey United a dramatic 3-2 lead.

Just when it appeared the comeback was complete, PDA produced one final twist.  With virtually the last kick of the match, the visitors found an equalizer in stoppage time to rescue a 3-3 draw and spoil what would have been one of New Jersey United’s most dramatic victories of the season.

Although the result will feel like two points dropped after leading so late, New Jersey United’s resilience and determination were on full display.  Trailing at halftime and again in the second half, the club refused to fold, with Madrid igniting the comeback and Taenaka delivering two clutch stoppage-time goals that nearly secured an unforgettable victory.
