Stars Fall to FC Motown 4-0
Three quick goals by Matt Nigro, Julius James, and Nelson Beccera along with a second half strike from Lucas Terci earned FC Motown a 4-0 victory over Junior Lone Star FC on Friday night at the Capelli Sport Complex in Tinton Falls, NJ.
Playing at a neutral site after bringing their match forward a day due to impending terrible weather in Philadelphia expected on the original date of the match, the Stars simply had an early 15 minutes to forget as they conceded three quick goals against a very strong FC Motown side.
The Stars saw themselves behind as early as the third minute when a 30-yard shot from Matt Nigro flew past goalkeeper Ralph Jacobs who was making his first start of the season.
Five minutes later, Motown increased their lead from a set piece with James heading it off a free kick.
The Stars were shell-shocked and conceded again in the 15th minute, this time a 55-yard screamer from Nelson Beccera which caught Jacobs off his lines.
After conceding those three quick goals, the coaching staff decided to bring in Prince Monyan for Jacobs in the 25th minute.
The Stars became more settled and missed two clear changes to reduce the deficit before the halftime.
In the second half, the Stars had few half-chances which were easily thwarted by Motown and while the Stars were putting more men forward, Motown added the fourth and final goal of the match in the 80th minute from Lucas Terci.
Junior Lone Star head coach Fatoma Turay had some thoughts to share on the loss.
“Honestly, I was very proud of the boys tonight. They didn’t put their heads down after conceding those three quick goals. They battled to the end and followed every instruction we gave them. The defeat is on me and I apologize to the players and our fans. We will regroup and get it right against West Chester United.”
The Stars will try to regroup next week as they prepare to welcome fierce rivals West Chester United SC on Saturday, June 2nd at 6:00 pm at the South Philadelphia Super Site.
