Fort Pitt Regiment Claims Third Straight Win 6-0

Virgara leads FPR attack with hat trick

The second meetings of the home and home series often results in a second game that isn’t close to the first.  At the final whistle that wasn’t the case as the Regiment upended Greater Binghamton FC 6-0 with another Red Coat posting a hat trick.

During the first half, despite an early goal from Lucas Canineu, it appeared the GBFC defense had found an approach to control the FPR attack.  The Regiment found a solid backline, disruptive midfield, and stalwart goalkeeping difficult to solve.

Canineu scored in the 13th minute off a well-placed pass from Jake Gratzer in one of the few efforts that evaded the Thunder defense.  The FPR goal was the lone tally in the first half.

After the break, FPR found its creative touch creating openings that allowed them to post five second-half tallies.

Anthony Virgara netted the second and third FPR goals in the 46th and 53rd minutes.  Virgara’s first goal came off a cross from Ryan Landry.  His second goal a result of Lucas Godinho threading a pass through a pair of defenders.

Friday evening’s hero, Tulio Canineu, joined the goal parade in the 66th minute.  He gathered a deflection off a GBFC defender to knock in an unassisted goal.

Ten minutes later Godinho used a set up from Tulio Canineu to notch his second goal of the season.  The goal pushed the FPR lead to 5-0.

Matt McDyer found an open Virgara setting up the FPR forward’s third goal in the 78th minute.

The Regiment improve to 3-0-0 with a trip to Cleveland next Sunday.
