Katy 1895 FC Falls to Experienced Midland-Odessa Side

Katy 1895 FC played Midland-Odessa Sockers FC on Saturday night at 7:00 at St. John XXIII College Preparatory School in Katy, Texas. Katy would go into halftime tied 0-0, but Midland eventually prevailed coming away with a 3-0 win. Katy, coming off of a loss last weekend against Brownsville fell to 1-3.   Midland-Odessa, who won against Tyler in their last game out, improved to 3-2.

Katy held strong and had several chances in the opening 45 minutes of action but were not able to convert any of their scoring opportunities. The first half was back and forth with Midland having its fair share of chances. An early free kick in the eighth minute from Midland would get the action started, but the wall did its job and the ball went out for a corner kick that was easily cleared away.

Katy got their first scoring chance of the match in the 15th minute when Sergio Loredo earned a deep free kick on top of the Midland eighteen-yard box. Jordi Cobo struck it well and on frame for Midland’s first save of the match and Katy got another opportunity from a corner won on that play. The rest of the half was fairly quiet with routine saves and chances on either side leaving the two teams deadlocked at 0-0 going into halftime.

Midland would get the scoring started in the 54th minute by the way of Nathan Regis. He controlled the ball well on the top of the box and calmly finished to the back post. Katy, pushing for the equalizer, were susceptible to the counter-attack and after conceding a corner kick, Regis found his second goal of the match from around the penalty spot off of the corner bringing the scoreline to 2-0. Regis completed his hat trick in the 83rd minute, finishing to the back post and bringing the scoreline to 3-0. A spectacular, late free kick save by Harrison Veith on the last touch of the game would bring the match to a close.
