Erie Commodores FC Dominate Greater Binghamton FC Thunder
Erie continued the 2018 NPSL season with a trip to Binghamton, NY for a match with Greater Binghamton FC Thunder. Binghamton, sitting at the bottom of the table, was looking to get three points against the top side of the conference in Erie. The Commodores were looking to stay unbeaten in the conference.
The match started off with both sides testing the water and feeling each other out. For the first fifteen minutes Erie controlled the ball in the middle of the park and was creating chances down the flanks against Binghamton’s back line. Erie spent most of the first fifteen minutes attacking the left and right back from Binghamton, but with no success.
It wasn’t until the 16th minute that Erie had the breakthrough. Jacob Alatorre, pick the ball up at the middle of field and played with Erie forward Steven Rigg and midfielder Fernando Martinez. The ball then was played out to the sideline where Alatorre tried to take on Binghamton’s left back, but the ball was played out of bounds for an Erie corner. Alatorre’s perfectly-timed cross found Andy Bennett’s right foot with Bennett beating the Thunder’s goalie, slotting his first goal of the season and opening up the scoring for Erie.
From there on Erie continued the scoring trend, putting up 11 on the Thunder over the course of the remaining 70 minutes. The match would end with a 11-0 shutout win for the Commodores.
