Spokane SC Shadow Grabs Shutout Win
A goal and assist from Mike Ramos along with a fourth shutout of the season from Bryan Hernandez propelled the Shadow First Team to a 2-0 victory against FCM Portland in a first-place showdown in the NPSL Northwest Sunday at Spokane Falls CC Stadium.
The Shadow controlled their second meeting of the weekend against Portland and snatched the lead in the 34th minute when Mike Ramos converted a penalty.
In the second half the Shadow battled the wind and a compact FCM defense, but finally broke through in the 76th for some insurance when Ramos found Tanner Williams inside the box. Williams beat the keeper to the ball at the penalty spot to put the hosts up two.
From there Hernandez and the defense managed the game to keep the clean sheet that eluded them the day before in a 1-1 draw in which the visitors equalized on a deflected shot.
The victory moves Spokane, still unbeaten after eight games, into sole possession of first in the NPSL Northwest Conference with a 4-0-4 record. The Shadow host the other Portland side, PDX FC, for a pair of games next week, hosting them Saturday at SFCC at 5:00 and again Sunday at the Polo Grounds at 1:00.
