So Close But So Far: Fort Pitt Regiment Falls to Cleveland SC 3-0

The Regiment loses their third in a row to Cleveland at home.  While the Red Coats suffered a night of near misses, Cleveland converted their chances to claim a 3-0 verdict at Highmark Stadium.

Cleveland got their goals from James Haupt, Admir Suljevic, and Mike Derezic.

In the 34th minute Haupt beat FPR keeper Rob McKelvey with a well-struck ball in the run of play off a counterattack.  With Ft. Pitt dominating possession and field position the goal came on a counter against the run of play and quickly reset both teams’ approach to the rest of the match.

Seljevic converted a penalty in the 51st minute.  He took the spot kick after Chris Cvecko was pulled down in the area by FPR’s Dom Galietta.

Mike Derezic capped the scoring in the 82nd minute.

The Regiment, already missing regulars Lamine Balde, Nick Kolarac, Matt McDyer, and Scott Rissler, saw Anthony Virgara hobble off in the 69th minute.  Virgara narrowly missed inches wide of the post twice in the first half.

In the previous meeting FPR converted three set pieces.  In this meeting Cleveland SC stopped several good scoring chances off set pieces.

Regiment is now 4-3-0.
