Fort Worth Vaqueros FC Defeats FC Brownsville 2-1 at Home

Smoke bombs flooded Farrington Field as Panther City Hellfire celebrated another Vaqueros victory on Saturday, June 23.

The Vaqueros (6-1-1, 19 points) scored two before the half and then held on to earn the 2-1 victory against FC Brownsville (4-5, 12 points) in NPSL Lone Star Conference play.

“The boys worked hard tonight to grab the lead at the break,” Vaqueros head coach Nick Stavrou said. “Brownsville provided a game effort in the second half but I was pleased the boys were able to grind out the win.”

The Vaqueros opened the scoring in the fourth minute when center forward Kalle Sone dished to Bobby Edet for the goal.

Fort Worth picked up the game-winner when once again Jamie Lovegrove struck a lethal dead ball across goal and into the far-side netting for the 2-0 lead.

Brownville pulled one back in the second half but the Vaqueros held on for the victory to remain in second place in the Lone Star Conference.

Fort Worth returns to action at 7:30 pm Saturday, June 30 at Farrington Field in a pivotal grudge match.

Shreveport comes to Cowtown as the Texas Trail Classic Rivalry returns for the 2018 season. In addition, a Vaqueros victory clinches Fort Worth a first round playoff bye as one of the top two teams in the Lone Star Conference playoffs.
