Katy 1895 FC Continues Winning Ways With 6-0 Win Over Tyler FC

Katy 1895 FC picked up their second win in a row with a 6-0 win over the visitors, Tyler FC at 7:00 on Wednesday evening at St. John XXIII College Preparatory School. Katy continued their high scoring trend as they improved their record to 3-0-5 on the season while Tyler FC ended their season at 0-0-10.

Katy 1895 FC got off to a very fast start when Abdullah Mirza picked off a pass from the Tyler backline and struck the ball into the top right corner just 12 seconds into the match taking a 1-0 lead. Shortly after, Katy scored their second goal of the match when Tutu Hernandez sent in a low cross that was flicked on by Josh Moore to Roger Lopez, who calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner in the fifth minute. In the 12th minute, Moore added to the lead, striking a first-time volley on the top of the box off of a rebound, taking a 3-0 lead. In the 17th minute, Hernandez got on the scoresheet, finishing after a scramble in the box after a low cross from Abdullah Mirza, making the scoreline 4-0. Just before halftime, Lopez got his second goal of the match after Moore sent Tomas Depetris through on the left side, who slid the ball across to Lopez for the goal. Katy took a 5-0 lead into halftime.

The second half was not nearly as exciting with the only goal scored late on in the 88th minute when Nick Coburn hit a direct free kick on frame to make the scoreline 6-0.

The win allowed Katy to keep the pace in the playoff race with the Shreveport Rafters FC failing to win on Wednesday night as well. Katy is one point back of Shreveport with two games left to play.

Katy 1895 FC featured 17 players in the match on Wednesday night. Starters were Harrison Veith, Alan Albornoz, Tyler Sivadon, Devon Grant, Sydney Tume, Luka Lazarevic, Josh Moore, Roger Lopez, Abdullah Mirza, Tutu Hernandez, and Tomas Depetris. Katy head coach Jimmy Krueger shared a number of positive thoughts after the match.

“It was another solid win for the guys tonight. Our Man of the Match performance came from one of our younger players, Roger Lopez. He has stepped up into a starter role and has put in some strong minutes for us.  We continue to grow as a club with each passing week. I am proud of how the guys are developing as a collective unit. We have a very strong opponent coming up in Laredo. I am looking forward to seeing how the guys meet the challenge.”

Katy 1895 FC is back in action Saturday as they hit the road, taking on the Laredo Heat SC at 8:15 pm at Texas A&M International University Soccer Complex.
