National Game of the Week #3 Preview: Riverside Coras Host FC Golden State in Exciting Matchup
The third National Game of the Week of the 2018 NPSL season will feature Riverside Coras hosting FC Golden State. This will be a clash between a perennial contender and an expansion side that is already turning heads.
Riverside’s Rob Lopez-Guardado is looking forward to the match and some exciting times ahead for the club.
“Our 2018 season is a work-in-progress, still looking for a few players to reinforce our roster. Overall we’re pretty excited with the new UCR alumni players recruited. We have no doubt we will continue to grow as the season advances. The player talent is at its best ever. We made a few adjustments. Switching the technical director has been a positive move for us. Now the team is playing in rhythm and in sync, utilizing its strength on the pitch.”
Coras has strength at every position with standouts leading the way from every corner of the pitch.
“Goalkeeper Alonso Lara has been amazing, solid in the back protecting our net,” Lopez-Guardado added. “Our centerback Fernando Cabello has been solid with great leadership and experience. Our center midfielder and captain Shane Shelton is among the best in the Inland Empire, always training hard and leading the group. Our young and dynamic forward Ramon Nunez is a very exciting player to watch, seeing his passion on the ball attacking the box.”
FC Golden State made quite an impression in their first-ever NPSL match just two weeks ago.
“We started the season with a solid 3-1 win over FC Arizona, away on March 17th,” FC Golden State Director of Football Alex Lujan stated. “We had a bye last week so the coaches really want to get the group back on track and build to form.”
Beating FC Arizona, the defending conference champions, was no easy feat and people certainly took notice of the 3-1 result.
The match between Riverside Coras and FC Golden State, with a 5:00 pm PT kickoff at Riverside Stadium on Saturday, is one of only two matchups this holiday weekend. FC Arizona hosts Oxnard Guerreros at John Riggs Stadium at 7:00 pm PT in Saturday’s other match.
