MATCH PREVIEW: NATIONAL GAME OF THE WEEK #1
This weekend is a major milestone for FC Golden State as they embark on their first-ever NPSL matchup. The match doesn’t come against any ordinary opponent, but rather FC Arizona, a team that made a deep postseason run in 2017.
“We are very excited to be a new member of the NPSL this year,” FC Golden State Director of Football Alex Lujan commented. “It is an honor to have the opportunity to start our campaign against a very strong Arizona club, who was undefeated in regular season play for 2017, in the NPSL Game of the Week. We expect a difficult, competitive match that should be very entertaining and fun to watch.”
It’s quite a way to start the season and it should offer fans and supporters an amazing experience. Lujan stated that expectations are high for the entire FC Golden State organization.
“We look to have a strong 2018 inaugural season with the hope to make a playoff run in July and August. Our goal at FC Golden State is to provide players growth opportunities and exposure through our unique competition schedule, training, relationships, and developmental philosophy.”
FC Arizona owner Scott Taylor also believes that 2018 holds great things for his organization.
“Last season we were undefeated with a record of 12-0-4. We hope to continue that and we will work hard to go further in the postseason with more depth in key positions. We have some new players that will really make a difference. We will see soon. This is the exciting part of a new season. It should be really fun to watch.”
To say Arizona is stacked is a bit of an understatement.
Tyler Feeley, Kevin Riascos, Jaime Olabarria, and Jose Rodriguez form a strong backline along with goalkeeper Angelino Scorzo, who has experience as a professional in Germany. Lee J. Lynch, Nacho Cancela, and Nacho Coba are a strong trio in the midfield, providing tremendous support for forwards Cesar Mexia and Chris Ramsell. Mexia was the team’s leading goalscorer
No wonder expectations are so high this season in the Grand Canyon State.
“We hope to contend for another Southwest Conference title and continue putting a great product on the field and grow the culture of FC Arizona fans and supporters,” Taylor concluded. “We are excited to host Golden State’s first NPSL game and our first league game of the season. ”
