RIVERSIDE CORAS AND TEMECULA FC FINISH WITH 1-1 DRAW

In what was a hotly contested “derby” game between local rivals Riverside Coras and Temecula FC, the game finished in a 1-1 result, but the scoreline bears no reflection on the manner in which the game was played.

Early pressure from the traveling side saw Temecula open the scoring with a superb counter-attack, leaving Teague Anderson with the opportunity to open the score 1-0 to the Quails. A couple more opportunities would fall for both teams before Ramon Nunez equalized for Coras, making the most of a mix-up involving Temecula keeper Dean Meltz and midfielder Tarek Nazzal in the 37th minute.  That would leave the game 1-1 at the break.

As the sun settled and the wind got stronger in the second half, both sides had fantastic opportunities to add to their scorelines.  However, a combination of great goalkeeping, superb bravery by defenders to block, and just hard luck for both sides meant that the second half finished with the same scoreline of 1-1.

With both head coaches making their NPSL debuts, the rivalry between these two clubs looks set to make for a great return game at Chaparral High School later in the season. One thing is for sure, the rest of the conference should be looking over their shoulders at both of these teams this season.
