“In the opinion of the NPSL and to the benefit of all stake holders, it would have been helpful to the process if Mr. Gulati used today’s teleconference as an opportunity to either resign from his position or, at a minimum, publicly declare his intentions toward his seeking re-election for the US Soccer Presidency.  As such, the future progress of the sport has been adjourned while delaying the clarity of the dialogue for new candidates and placing the focus of the upcoming Men’s National Teams friendlies, and other events scheduled in the coming months, away from the competition on the field and onto the uncertain timetable for change in the governance and direction of the sport’s leadership.  The NPSL recognizes the accomplishments at the international and domestic level of Bruce Arena and also his staff for their past and future contributions to the game.”
