FC WICHITA ADVANCE WITH 5-1 WIN OVER TULSA ATHLETIC

In front of a near capacity crowd at Stryker Soccer Complex, FC Wichita claimed their second conference championship in their three-year existence by defeating Tulsa Athletic 5-1.

FCW came out firing and put its stamp on the game with the first goal just four minutes into the game. Matt Clare received a near post drive from Luca Anelli and redirected in to the back post. It would not be long before Deri Corfe would create some magic of his own in the 16th minute.  Deri’s won possession of the ball in the left side of the Tulsa box and immediately took on their defenders by dribbling across the eighteen yard line to curl the ball in the far corner.

Matt Clare accepted the challenge from Corfe to continue on and just one minute later, Clare would steal an arrant pass in Tulsa’s defensive end, dribble around Tulsa’s sprawling goalkeeper for the tap-in.  It was now a 3-0 lead for FCW.

Tulsa would not give up and the leadership of veteran forward Dave Leung would see him receive a pass from Santiago straight up the middle of the FCW defense and calmly place the ball passed FCW keeper Mark Weir in the 26th minute.  The score line of 3-1 would hold true to the halftime break.

Tulsa came back from the halftime break with heavy pressure that saw them denied by the post twice before Corfe would cash in his second goal of the game in the 56th minute.  From that point the game took on a different look as the battle for possession would go back-and-forth in the middle of the park.  Then Clare would complete his hat trick on the night with his third goal in the 76th minute.  A pass on the ground would find him alone on the back side of Tulsa box just about eight yards out.  As cool as the other side of the pillow, Clare bended a lofted chip over the Tulsa keeper in to the far corner.

The game would end with a score of 5-1 and see FC Wichita claim their second conference championship in just three years.
