PREVIEW: VAQUEROS HOST FIRST PLAYOFF MATCH IN CLUB HISTORY ON WEDNESDAY
The Vaqueros will host the first playoff match in the club’s four-year history this Wednesday night after finishing with the number one seed in the conference standings.
Shreveport (3-2-5, 11 points) claimed the fourth seed and will travel to Cowtown for a 7:30 pm kickoff, Wednesday (July 12) at Texas Wesleyan University’s Martin Field (Lancaster & Collard Streets).
The Vaqueros (7-1-2, 22 points) clinched the number one seed after a weekend of back-to-back matches. Fort Worth eliminated the Houston Regals with a 4-0 victory on Saturday and then secured first place with a 1-0 victory against Tyler FC on Sunday.
Fort Worth enters the postseason on a three-game win streak.
“The team is heading into the playoffs on a high after securing first place in the regular season. With three wins on the bounce we hope to carry that momentum into a very tough game against a dogged Shreveport team,” coach Nick Stavrou said. “We are hoping the home field advantage of our 12th man will help carry the boys through as the intensity turns up as it is now playoffs time.”
Gates for the match will open at 6:30 p.m. with a cost of $10 for adults, $5 for youth (6-16), and 5-and-under free.
The match will feature the regular staples of Vaqueros home games with Pizza Patron, Kona Ice, the youth mini-field, soccer tennis, and the Beer Garden powered by the Chat Room Pub.
“Our boys were on tired legs late Sunday night but credit goes to coach Stavrou for building a deep and dedicated squad that battled to claim the number one spot,” Vaqueros general manager Tobias Xavier Lopez said. “It goes hand-in-hand that we allowed the fewest goals in conference play (eight) and ultimately earned the top spot. With the help of the Vaqueros Family especially Panther City Hellfire, I anticipate a scrappy run in the playoffs.”
