FCM PORTLAND TAKES ROUND TWO OF PORTLAND DERBY
It was an exciting second edition of the Portland Derby that ended with a winner late in stoppage time from the home side FC Mulhouse Portland at Strasser Field. FCM Portland’s Noah Addie was able to apply the finishing touch from the corner of the six-yard box after a deflected clearance fell to his feet to give his team the 3-2 win.
FCM Portland opened the scoring on a well-placed free kick from the edge of the box from midfielder Ryo Asai in the 27th minute. They then doubled their lead early in the second half when forward Borce Atanasov got in behind the PDX FC defense and finished to the bottom corner.
However, after going 2-0 down PDX responded and battled back to tie the game at 2-2. Winger Jerson Mejia was brought down in the box in the 55th minute and forward Nick Evans halved the deficit with a cool finish from the spot. Minutes later PDX leveled the score when Gabe Parrish brought the ball out of the air in the box and poked it home for his third goal of the season.
The result means that FC Mulhouse will qualify for the NPSL West Region Playoffs while PDX FC will miss out on a top two finish and automatic qualification for the playoffs in their inaugural season.
FCM Portland will make the trip to Bremerton, WA to face Kitsap SC on Saturday, July 8th in their final match of the regular season, and one that could decide who tops the NPSL Northwest Conference table.
PDX FC will finish the season with two away trips – the first to Seattle to face OSA FC at Highline Memorial Stadium on Saturday, July 8th and will finish the season away at Kitsap SC in Bremerton, WA on Wednesday, July 12th.
