NEW YORK ATHLETIC CLUB FALLS TO RHODE ISLAND REDS IN ATLANTIC CONFERENCE BATTLE

On a beautiful Sunday afternoon, the New York Athletic Club hosted the Rhode Island Reds with hopes of continuing their three-game unbeaten streak and climbing out of the Atlantic Conference cellar with a win. Having defeated Boston City on the road the previous evening, the quick turnaround and long trip home made for tired legs.

It took just five minutes into the match for Rhode Island to capitalize on a sloppy NYAC turnover, a deficit that would not be overcome.

NYAC’s Laurin Vogel scored a hat-trick for the hosts but his efforts were outdone by Rhode Island’s Lozano Smith, who was a menacing presence all afternoon and scored two goals himself while setting up the fourth decisive goal.

The win keeps the Reds in the hunt for the last playoff spot while the loss ends the momentum NYAC had generated and keeps them in the Atlantic Conference White cellar for another week.
