PREVIEW: SHADOW MEN’S FIRST TEAM HOME FOR TWO AT SFCC JUNE 17-18
The Spokane Shadow Men’s First Team will be looking to make a dent in the NPSL Northwest table this weekend with a pair of home matches, playing host to Kitsap Saturday at 7:00 and FCM Portland Sunday at 2:00. Both games are at Spokane Falls CC Stadium. Gates open 30 minutes before kick-off. Shadow 2, meanwhile, travel to Yakima Sunday.
Saturday – Shadow MFT v Kitsap Pumas 7:00 – SFCC
Sunday – Shadow MFT v FCM Portland 2:00 – SFCC
The Shadow look to rebound from a tough Oregon trip that saw them drop two on the road to PDX FC and FCM Portland last weekend. Before they get a second chance at FCM, though, the lads will have to meet up with Kitsap for the second time this season on Saturday. In their first initial meeting to open the season, the two sides battled to a 1-1 stalemate in Bremerton. The Pumas held the lead from the first half, but Jesse Retan scored the equalizer in the 71st on a ball from Kyle Morris.
Last weekend, FCM got the better of the Shadow on a pair of set pieces in a 2-0 result in which Spokane hit the woodwork three times and had a myriad of other chances. The hosts tallied on a corner in which Shadow goalkeeper Bryan Hernandez suffered a foul that went uncalled and the second also came on a corner with the ball finding its way back to an FCM player that smashed a shot in from the top of the box. The trip concluded with a 4-1 defeat to PDX in which Drew Williams scored on a ball from JD Hauenstein in the second half. Trailing 3-1, it was too late for a full comeback.
Joining the squad this week is Zack Hamer. Hamer returns to the team after being one of the leading scorers for the team the past two seasons. His addition may mark the first time the Hamer brothers will take the pitch together since his older brother Nick finished up at Gonzaga in 2014. Nick featured for the Shadow in 2014, but spent the last two seasons with Kitsap in the PDL.
