MATCH RECAP: SOCAL SC BOUNCES BACK AND DEFEATS OXNARD ON THE ROAD

The Southern California Sports Club had a good display of balance last Saturday as the team headed to the Ventura County and returned home with three points following a 3-0 road win over the Oxnard Guerreros FC at Del Sol Stadium.

The victory ended a series of bad results amassed by SoCal SC over the past weeks when the team failed to score against FC Arizona, Riverside Coras, and Orange County FC and left the three games empty-handed.

With the win, SoCal SC leapfrogged both the Oxnard Guerreros and Temecula FC to climb to the fifth place at the Southwest Conference with 17 points (five wins, two ties, seven losses). The team, though, is eliminated from playoff contention.

The match was special for midfielder Jorge Moreno, who scored SoCal SC’s first goal in the initial minutes of action. The Mexican played his last match for the club as he is headed to Spain to try out for La Liga team Leganés and second tier sides Rayo Vallecano, Albacete, and Getafe and managed to find the back of the net in his farewell match.

With a brace on the second half, scoring in the 50th and 85th minutes, captain Eric Gonzalez assured SoCal SC’s win. The 22-year-old midfielder leads the team is goals this season with six so far.

“We got the result that we needed,” Gonzalez commented about the match. “It gets us a good momentum for next weekend’s game against Albion in San Diego. We’re just looking forward to finish the season in the best way possible.”

SoCal SC will be on the road again next Saturday (July 1) as the team heads to the Mission Bay High School to go up against the Albion SC PROS at 6:00 pm PT. It will be the second-to-last game of the regular season for the club.
