A hard-fought match between the Brooklyn Italians and Elm City Express lead to the Italians taking a 1-0 win, putting them atop the Atlantic Blue Division.
With both teams going into the match unbeaten, the tension was high along with the quality. Elm City Express was close to taking the lead early, having a goal disallowed that looked to hit the inside of the net. After the dust had settled, Elm City continued to push forward, hitting the post one more time before the teams went into the half 0-0.
As the teams came out in the second half, the Italians were determined to take a stranglehold on the match, but Elm City continued to exert their power by shutting down all attacks. With the game destined for a draw, in stoppage time of the second half, Rasmus Hansen of the Brooklyn Italians was sent a through ball that drew the keeper off his line. The quick-thinking Hansen accurately lofted the ball over the keeper, and watched as the ball rolled in to put the Italians up 1-0. Already deep into stoppage, the Italians were able to hang out, and bring their current unbeaten streak to three matches (3-0-0).
With the first loss of the season, Elm City’s record is now 3-1-1.
