This game, time didn’t run out on the Vaqueros as a late game-winner from Jamie Lovegrove earned Fort Worth the 2-1 victory against Midland/Odessa FC.
Last week in Midland, the Vaqueros fell behind in the first half and despite a late rally fell 2-1 in West Texas.
On Saturday, the Vaqueros (4-1, 12 points) fell behind 1-0 only to bag a pair in the second half at Arlington Heights high school to retake first place in the NPSL Texas Conference.
Lovegrove converted a penalty kick in the 86th minute after Matt Rochowski was taken down in the box.
“It’s a massive win for us, we fought really hard the first half and I don’t think the boys deserved to go down 1-0,” Lovegrove said.
Midland/Odessa (3-1, 9 points) went up 1-0 at half time after a physical first half of play.
“It was a tough one to let in, I thought we played well in the first half and in the second half they gave it a little bit extra,” coach Nick Stavrou said.
The Vaqueros picked up the pace in the 2nd half and were able to score two goals.
Harris Partain scored in the 71th minute off an assist from Lovegrove.
The Fort Worth Vaqueros head to Conroe next Saturday to face the Dutch Lions on June 10.
