Kalamazoo FC 0, FC Indiana 2
Kalamazoo FC played their third conference match of the season at Mayors Riverfront Park Friday night, hosting FC Indiana. Both teams entered the match in search of their first win.
Chances came quickly for KZFC, but FC Indiana kept a well-disciplined defense, forcing long- range shots and clearing dangerous crosses before Kalamazoo could get off anything from close range.
FC Indiana got a few chances of their own, and nn the 42nd minute, they sent an in-swinging free kick into the box which found the chest of a waiting forward, who followed up the popped-up trap with his head and then toe-poked the ball into the net just before KZFC’s keeper could get to it. The game stayed 1-0 through the end of the half.
In the second half, Kalamazoo FC held the balance of possession again and the chances got even closer. In the 61st minute, Rocky Guerra had a shot from inside the six that was acrobatically saved by the Indiana keeper. A minute later, team captain Nick Wysong headed in a flicked-on cross, but the goal was disallowed for off-sides.
As the minutes passed, the intensity increased. The first yellow card wasn’t shown until the 69th minute, given to an FC Indiana player for jersey pulling, but there would be four more in the final 20 minutes, three to Indiana and one to KZFC.
In the 80th minute, Indiana doubled their lead with a screaming shot from a seemingly impossible angle just off the end line near the corner. The game ended 2-0.
Kalamazoo FC fall to 0-3-0 and FC Indiana climb to 1-2-0. The two teams play each other again this Friday in the away leg of the two-game series.
