SoCal SC Falls 4-0 on the Road to Conference Leaders FC Arizona on Hard-Fought Match
Southern California Sports Club reached the halfway point of its National Premier League (NPSL) regular season campaign with a tough loss as the team was defeated 4-0 by FC Arizona on Saturday, May 6 at Corona Del Sol High School in Tempe, Arizona.
With the first eight of its 16 regular season matches completed, SoCal SC sits seventh in the Southwest Conference with eight points (two wins, four losses, three ties). FC Arizona is one of the three undefeated teams in the conference and climbed to the top of it with 20 points (six wins and two ties).
Pushed by their fans, the hosts wasted no time to score as Kenny McAvoy took advantage of a slow start of SoCal SC and found the back of the net only 11 seconds after the first whistle.
The goal made the visitors take control of the game, but, despite some good chances, Socal SC was not able to tie it. On the 30th minute, on a counter attack, George Jermy completed a cross from Cesar Mexia and scored the second for FC Arizona.
Right after SoCal SC’s kickoff, the hosts managed to get the ball back and Alejandro Aguilar chipped the ball over the goalkeeper to score the third goal. The visitors insisted and created some opportunities, but were not able to find the back of the net.
On the second half, FC Arizona had a good start and scored its fourth goal on a header from Ari Sanchez at the 53rd minute. SoCal SC showed good spirits and pushed numbers forward, but it wasn’t enough to break the best defense in the conference.
SoCal SC will now have two weeks to regroup before its next match against City of Angels FC on May 20 at 6 pm PT at the Fairplex. The teams already met this year on the season opener and SoCal SC managed to get an impressive 5-1 road win.
