Miami Fusion FC Defeats Jacksonville Armada U-23

The Miami Fusion hosted the Jacksonville Armada U-23 in their first game of the season. The game was played Sunday afternoon at Ives Estate Park in Miami, Florida. The Fusion and Armada played most the game at a 0-0 draw with William Stamatis working hard for the Miami Fusion up front. Stamatis won multiple battles in the air keeping the Armada back two on their toes the whole game. His strong work rate help push the fusion team fight the whole 90 minutes.

In the 76th minute the Fusion finally found the breakthrough they have been pushing for all game when a free kick was finished by Martine Lozano, who had just been brought on as a substitute. Ten minutes later another substitute Victor Cardoso sealed Jacksonville’s fate with the Fusion’s second goal in the last 15 minutes of the game.

“We had a slow start due to the fact it was our first game of the season, the heat, and finally we did not know much about Jacksonville,” Fusion head coach Head coach Ferdi De Matthaeis commented. “We were able to keep the score to a 0-0 tie through the first half. In the second half we changed our formation and with the impact of Victor Cardoso coming in up front we turned the game around. With these changes found a way to win our first match of the season. This was a very important win for us because our arrivals Miami United are running away with six points in two games. We are looking forward to our next match at home against Miami United.”

The Fusion’s next match will be against crosstown rivals Miami United. They will be looking for revenge after a loss to United late last season.

“The team performed very well,” Fusion owner Venanzio Cipollitti added. “I am proud to be the owner of the Miami Fusion.  The boys are working hard and I believe this group can go very far this year.”
