Miami United FC Defeats Boca Raton FC 1-0
Over 900 supporters turned out to Ted Hendricks Stadium in Hialeah, Florida this weekend for the first Sunshine Conference match of the 2017 NPSL season. It was Miami United FC hosting Boca Raton FC and it turned out to be a brilliant match from start to finish.
The crowd, led by a new Miami United supporters’ group called La 12 United, was very loud and boisterous throughout the entire match. They clearly showed that they were enjoying the quality soccer on display and were ready to influence the game as the “12th man”.
Miami United defender Daniel Navarro was able to head in the game’s first and only goal in just the fifth minute. Rafinha was able to set up the goal with a cross to the middle of the field, putting Navarro in perfect position to score the goal.
The opportunities continued to flow for the home side, but Boca Raton FC goalkeeper Leonardo Tavares came up with several solid saves before halftime. He would have a total of nine on the night.
The second half started with a more confident and attacking Boca Raton squad that put pressure on the Miami defense, but it doesn’t lead to any shots on goal. Navarro continued to make his presence known on the backline, helping thwart scoring opportunities from the visitors.
Miami created two more opportunities to score in the second half, but a shot went wide and another was saved by Tavarez. The game ended with the score of 1-0 in favor of Miami United FC, giving them the entire three points.
