WITH NEW FACES, SOCAL SC DEFEATS CITY OF ANGELS FC 4-1 AT HOME

The Southern California Sports Club opened the second half of its 2017 National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) campaign in good shape as the team achieved a promising 4-1 win over City of Angels FC Saturday, May 20th at the Fairplex. Jesus Soria, Alex Zaragoza, Roonie Moreno, and Jorge Moreno scored for SoCal SC.

With the result, SoCal SC moved one spot up in the Southwest Conference standings, jumping to sixth place with 11 points (three wins, two ties, and four losses).

SoCal SC, which was led by Interim Head Coach Samuel Bernabe, had the debut of two new signings as American midfielders Jacob Arrieta and Andy Ortega were subbed in at the 72nd and the 75th minutes, respectively.

“I thought it was a pretty good game,” said the 23-year-old Arrieta. “For my first few minutes in I felt like I got hold of the ball and I felt like the team made it easy for me to control it in the middle. Everybody around me was pretty calm and they knew it was time to close out the game. And I felt like I was able to help to close it out with.”

“It felt good to get out there for 15 minutes,” added Ortega, 27. “I’ve been working hard for the past three months. I feel like I can provide for the second half of the season and help the team to get a good run and push for a playoff spot.”

The club also signed 22-year-old Brazilian goalkeeper Giovani Riello, who made the gameday roster, and midfielders Santiago Warren (20) and Francisco Magana (24), both from the United States.

Playing a dominating soccer, SoCal SC controlled the game since the beginning and scored all of its four goals in the first half, between the third and the 25th minutes.

In the first minute of the second half, City of Angels FC faced a tricky situation, as their goalkeeper got injured and they didn’t have a replacement on their gameday roster. So, a field player putted the gloves on and played as a GK. Even though, the visiting team was able to score at the 50th minute.

Next Saturday, May 27th, SoCal SC heads west to face Sports Club Corinthians USA at Chino High School at 7:30 pm PT.
