DUTCH LIONS EARN POSTSEASON SPOT WITH 4-0 WIN OVER REGALS SCA
The Dutch Lions FC NPSL hosted the Houston Regals SCA in a hometown battle in a look to secure a playoff spot in their first season of play in the NPSL. The Dutch Lions FC were quick off the mark scoring a well-placed header from Ahmed Zaky in the first minute of play. The Lions established their dominance early, keeping the majority of possession against the Regals. The Dutch Lions FC would score again in the 12th minute of play when Anuar Kanan took an individual dribble through three Regals defenders and slotted the ball into the bottom corner of the goal. The game would became a bit more physical as the visibly frustrated Regals were trying to win the ball back. The Regals would see three yellow cards come their way in the remainder of the first half of play.
The second half was much of the same for both teams. The Dutch Lions FC continued their dominance on the game with a great deal of possession, and were awarded a penalty in the 69th minute. The Lions’ Dener Dos Santos stepped up and put the ball in the back of the net. The Dutch Lions would score once more in the 76th minute through substitute Carlos Acevedo. The Dutch Lions defender was issued a yellow card for a rash challenge in the 79th minute.
The Regals’ night got even worse when Ivan Vazquez was shown a red card, forcing them to finish out the rest of the game with just ten men. The game finished as a 4-0 result in favor of the Dutch Lions FC.
The Dutch Lions FC have officially secured a playoff spot in their inaugural season of the NPSL. They moved into second place and will travel to San Antonio to face Corinthians FC on Wednesday, June 29th at 7:30 pm.
