BATTTALION STAY HOT AND PICK UP THREE POINTS
The North County Battalion extended their point streak by going unbeaten in six straight league games (5-0-1) with a 2-0 victory over SoCal SC. They head into their final game four points clear of Deportivo Coras USA, who has a game in hand, for second place and a home playoff game.
North County, sporting white jerseys for the first time this season, continued their offensive onslaught early in the game. They put the pressure on SoCal from the first minute of the game until the final whistle.
The Battalion struck when Adam “Cheezi” Meltz made a run down the left side of the box. He cut into the box, crossed up a defender, and found himself in front of the goalkeeper. He shot the ball past the approaching goalie to put North County up 1-0 in the tenth minute.
Similar to the first half, the Battalion kept the pressure up in the second. They extended the lead in the 50th minute to 2-0 when Asher Booth sent in a cross towards goal. A SoCal defender headed the ball back towards goal and Eric Lopez settled the ball down in the box. With no one around him, he unleashed a shot that the goalkeeper had no chance of stopping.
The defense thwarted every attempt from SoCal and limited them to only one dangerous shot. The game was a complete team effort and Duach Jock said it best after the game, “When we stay synched and communicate, it’s hard for us to get beat.”
