TOBACCO ROAD FC DEFEATS FC CAROLINA DISCOVERIES 4-1
On Friday night before a crowd of more than 200, Tobacco Road FC took one step closer to its preseason goal of qualifying for the NPSL’s South Atlantic Conference Playoffs. In convincing fashion, the Durham, NC based club defeated the visiting FC Carolina Discoveries from Rock Hill, SC 4-1. The game kicked-off at 7:00 pm amidst sweltering humidity and Tobacco Road FC quickly made its intentions known as it applied heavy pressure to the visiting club. Although several promising scoring opportunities were missed, the Durham club played with air of confidence not previously seen by their home crowd.
After weathering the early aggression, the visiting FC Carolina Discoveries settled in and even found several counter attacking opportunities during the first 20 minutes. However, the constant pressure from the home team soon proved to be too much, with Cameron Moseley freeing himself in the 29th minute to beat the keeper for his fourth goal of the season.
Sensing the visitors were ready to offer another goal, TRFC increased its pressure, and again found a sprinting Moseley for a breakaway in the 41st, only to be dragged down from behind by a Discoveries defender. The resulting red card would have the home team playing with a man advantage for the entirety of the second half.
The advantage proved to be too much for the visitors, who competed gamely, but gave up three quick goals to outside midfielder Evan De Ycaza – recording his first career hat trick. The game would end in favor of Tobacco Road FC 4-1 as they continued their march to the postseason.
With 12 points, TRFC stands alone in third place with a massive crosstown rivalry game versus the Carolina Railhawks NPSL on Friday night. The game will be played at Durham County Memorial Stadium with a 7:00 pm kick-off. Tickets can be purchased at www.tobaccoroadfc.com/tickets or at the gate.
