SILVERBACKS AND DISCOVERIES END IN 2-2 DRAW

Friday night’s match up at Silverbacks Park was between the FC Carolina Discoveries and the Atlanta Silverbacks. The game ended in a 2-2 draw and both teams had good play on both sides of the field at times.

The game was a story of two players that shined for their respective teams on the night: Joao Johanning Mora (ATL) and Daniel Revivo (FCCD). Overall the Silverbacks looked to be the stronger team and created more chances, but Carolina was more clinical with their finishing and made the most of their opportunities. All four goals were scored in the first half of the match. The Silverbacks did not seem to have lost a step in their play although they were missing three key players due to injury and a sending off, in their last match, including their goalkeeper. The Discoveries put a goal on the scoreboard just minutes into the game with a goal scored by Daniel Revivo on a breakaway off an ill-advised backpass from a Silverback defender.  Shortly after, the SIlverbacks equalized with a brilliant finish from the winger Joao Johanning Mora. He received a fantastic lofted pass from Pedro Polaz and was able to put a move on the goalkeeper and slip the ball into an empty net.

After both teams broke through the defenses once, the next 30 minutes or so was when the match was most exciting with plenty of chances created. Revivo was able to notch another goal for himself off some good build-up play and was able to slot the ball past the keeper just inside the 18 yard box. Just before the half, Mora was able to break through the defense with some dazzling dribbling and was taken down in the box for a penalty kick. Mora stepped up confidently and blasted it into the back of the net with the goalkeeper guessing the wrong way. The first half whistle blew just seconds after.

The second half was not as exciting from a goal standpoint and more of the game was played in the middle of the field. Both teams had a few chances and it was a more of an even match compared to the Silverbacks controlling the opening half. The second half did include more physical play. Overall, it was an exciting match to watch and both sides had some good things to show although the end result may not have been what they wanted exactly.
