DUTCH LIONS FC NPSL CLAW BACK TO EARN THE DRAW
The Dutch Lions FC hosted Corinthians FC of San Antonio on a beautiful night in Conroe, Texas at the Houston Dutch Lions FC Soccer Facility.
The Lions were looking to bounce back from their loss to the Tulsa Athletics and to gain some points on the gap to the table leaders. The first half saw the Corinthians hit the post twice in the early minutes, but they couldn’t get the ball past the Lions’ keeper. The half turned into a very hard-fought midfield battle with two yellow cards, one to each team issued. The Lions’ Dener Dos Santos was issued a yellow card for a hard tackle in the 28th minute of play; and the Corinthians’ yellow card was to Oscar Mascorro in the 41st for unsporting behavior. Before the end of the half Dener Dos Santos had a wicked volley that just missed wide left.
The second half was once again started quickly by the Corinthians with a goal by second half sub Oscar Rojas in the 47th minute with a fine poacher’s goal off the rebound. The next 43 minutes the Corinthians stuck in defensively, looking to earn all three points from this bout. The Lions pressed and in the dying minutes the Lions pulled one back with a header from Jose Pablo Covarrubias directly from a corner kick. It just so happened to be the last play of the game. The Dutch Lions were still celebrating the late goal when the referee blew the final whistle. 1-1 was the final result as the Dutch Lions earned a draw to Corinthians FC SA.
The Dutch Lions FC host the Fort Worth Vaqueros this Saturday at 7 pm.
