STRIKERS TOP FC FREDERICK 1-0
With storms leering in the distance, Richmond Strikers topped FC Frederick 1-0 at Carlos Martinoli Stadium Sunday afternoon.
Sunday evening’s match was a hard-fought match between both squads and one that the Strikers were happy to walk away with three points. Keepers for both teams kept many shots from turning into goals but Drew Romig from Richmond Strikers was able to notch the shutout for his squad. Tommy Watkins, captain for Richmond Strikers and returner from last year, put away his first goal of the season in the 28th minute of the game from a corner kick.
Richmond Strikers goalkeeper coach Christian Mendez commented that “it was a great team effort, aggressive mentality and playing for each other that was able to take us to a win at home.”
The squad looked completely different from the squad that played last week against VB City FC, as there was lots of energy and combination play. Fans could tell that the team that showed up to play had shown up to get three points.
Richmond Strikers plays ASA Charge on the road this Wednesday, June 8th, which is a rain makeup day from earlier this season. The next home game is Sunday, June 15th where the Strikers will host ASA Charge here at Carlos Martinoli Stadium at 5:30 pm.
