OPEN CUP RUN ENDS FOR CHATTANOOGA FC

One of the tournament’s last remaining amateur sides, Chattanooga FC had the appetite for an upset in its third round U.S. Open Cup match against USL opponent Harrisburg City Islanders, but couldn’t maintain its initial lead gained just before the break.

Despite Soren Yuhaschek giving the hosts the 1-0 lead, Harrisburg responded in the second half through Craig Foster’s volley in the 71st minute. Foster was involved again nine minutes later as he collected the flick-on from a long goal kick and fed Paul Wilson for the game-winning strike.

The home side played in front of yet another impressive crowd of 2,595.

Chattanooga FC has experienced great success in the Open Cup in recent years, also advancing to the third round in 2015.  They would fall to the NASL’s Atlanta Silverbacks by the same 2-1 scoreline in last year’s competition.

CFC has been busy as of late, hosting the U.S. Amateur Soccer Championships and announcing friendlies with teams from Tigres UANL (Liga MX) and Middlesbrough FC (EPL).
