Fredericksburg FC came away with a 1-0 road victory over Virginia Beach City FC on Sunday evening. Nick Rich made the difference for Fredericksburg with a 30-yard stunner in the second half.
VB City FC came out on all cylinders after kickoff, creating one chance after another through the first 20 minutes of action. Fredericksburg settled in shortly after, though it would remain scoreless into the break.
The scoreless affair wouldn’t last long as Fredericksburg FC took advantage of a counter attack in the second half. Nick Rich found himself in space before producing a stunning 30-yard strike for the opening goal.
VB City FC would quickly respond with a flurry of chances, but Fredericksburg keeper Carlos Canas was up to the task. Canas would also get some help from the weather as the match was forced into a delay due to lightning in the 62nd minute.
The weather never gave in and the match would go on to be called off after nearly two hours of delay. Within regulations, Fredericksburg FC came away with a crucial three points as the NPSL campaign gets into full swing in June.
