On Saturday, May 7th the Dutch Lions FC played their inaugural NPSL game at the Houston Dutch Lions FC Soccer Facility versus Dallas City FC.  It was a lovely night in Conroe, Texas where the home crowd of 302 fans got to see their Dutch Lions pull out a tough 2-1 victory over Dallas.

The Lions dominated the first half and were quick to score in the 10th minute as Mitchell Cardenas put Jose Pablo Covarrubias through on goal.   Covarrubias finished off his one-on-one opportunity with the goalkeeper.   The Lions doubled their lead with a goal from Carlos Acevedo in the 33rd minute of play.  Acevedo finished off a squared ball from Anuar Kanan as he broke free of his man down the left side.  The Dutch Lions had several more opportunities on goal, but couldn’t seem to finish their chances past the Dallas keeper Joseph Khalaf.  The Lions went into the half up 2-0.

The Dutch Lions struggled a bit in the second half to create chances as Dallas upped the tempo.

Dallas pulled one back on the Dutch Lions in the 68th minute when Ariel Mesa broke free from the Dutch Lions center back and finished off a one-on-one chance with Dutch Lions goalkeeper Mathew Gutierrez. The game got chippy in the second half with a total of five yellow cards being handed out, but the Dutch Lions hung on for a hard-fought 2-1 victory.
