VIRGINIA BEACH CITY COMES UP BIG AGAINST RICHMOND STRIKERS
The Richmond Strikers NPSL squad fell 7-2 to VB City FC Friday evening at Striker Park in Glen Allen, VA. The evening started later than scheduled due to the WPSL match getting off the ground late, where the Richmond Strikers team beat the VB City FC WPSL team 2-0. The game was played under the lights on a hot evening in front of approximately 150 fans.
The first half was full of excitement with penalty kick after penalty kick being awarded to VB City FC. Four PKs were called within minutes of each other and VB City was able to capitalize on three of them, though Richmond Strikers goalkeeper Andrew Romig came up big on one and came close on all the others. Unfortunately for the Richmond Strikers during one of the fouls, Liam Jenkins was awarded a straight red card, which brought them down a player for the last 50 minutes of play. VB City was able to take the Richmond Strikers to halftime winning 5-0.
Coming back from a tough halftime score and being down a player, the subs coming in off the bench for the Richmond Strikers added some much needed energy and they were able to put a couple of goals away before the end of the match. Corey Sindle notched one in the 60th minute and Matti Puranen notched one of his own in the 71st minute. Unfortunately the first half caused too much damage to come back from and VB City FC came out on top.
The next home game for the Richmond Strikers is on Sunday, June 5th at Striker Park vs. FC Frederick.
