MARIO PINTO ON ADRIANO: “WE CAN ALL WATCH A GREAT PLAYER AGAIN”
While the NPSL is located in the U.S., the recent news of Adriano signing with Miami United
FC has made a splash all over the world. This is particularly true in Brazil, Adriano’s native country.
When NPSL alumnus Mario Pinto, who recently signed with Brazilian side Esporte Clube Noroeste, heard the news that Adriano was on his way to the NPSL, he made sure to share his opinion with us on the matter.
“He’s a really good player and he really wants to go back to playing soccer professionally,” said Pinto. “He needs to get focused, but hopefully he can get back to playing soccer and we all can watch a great player again.”
Pinto thinks that the move could help grow the NPSL brand not just stateside but also in South America, particularly in Brazil where Adriano still has quite the following. This comes as no surprise given that Adriano was a member of the Brazilian national team that won the 2004 Copa América and the 2005 Confederations Cup.
“It’s a big name for the NPSL,” said Pinto. “He’ll definitely bring a couple thousands of fans and lots of Brazilians would want to watch the games.”
Adriano will likely start his season with Miami United on May 1st at home against the Miami Fusion.
