BBVA Compass nails down title sponsorship of Birmingham Hammers soccer team

  • Soccer team is entering its inaugural season in the National Premier Soccer League

BBVA Compass announced today that it is now the title sponsor of the Birmingham Hammers, the newest addition to the National Premier Soccer League, putting another of the bank’s visible stamps on efforts to bring the world’s most popular sport to the city.

The BBVA Compass logo will be solely featured on the front of the team’s game-day jerseys, and will also be present on the team’s website and social media channels. The deal comes just two months after the bank debuted Birmingham’s newest soccer venue, BBVA Compass Field, which will be home to the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s men’s and women’s soccer teams.

“We are so proud to sponsor this team, and we’re excited to see the Hammers get out there and play,” said BBVA Compass Birmingham CEO Alan Register. “We are part of a global bank that understands well the power this sport has to bring people together and build communities, and it’s especially rewarding to bring those efforts to the community we call home.”

BBVA Compass now sponsors three soccer teams. In addition to the Hammers, BBVA Compass also has partnerships with the Houston Dynamo of Major League Soccer and the Houston Dash of the National Women’s Soccer League, both of which play at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston.

The Hammers are entering their first season in the NPSL, having previously played in independent friendlies. BBVA Compass will have be the exclusive title sponsor for the team’s inaugural season in the league.

“Having BBVA Compass as our title sponsor for 2016 is a big honor,” said Birmingham Hammers President and General Manager Morgan Copes. “We are thrilled to be partnered with a company that shares our passion for soccer and for Birmingham.”

The team will play its home matches at Sicard Hollow Athletic Complex in Vestavia Hills, and will kick off conference play at home against Chattanooga FC on May 14. Open tryouts for the inaugural season are Sunday March 13th, for more information click here.
