MATCH RECAP: SEACOAST UNITED MARINERS 1, BOSTON CITY FC 2

Boston City FC earned three points from the club’s first-ever National Premier Soccer League away match, but made hard work of securing a second straight win in beating Seacoast United Mariners 2-1.

Yaw Addow returned from suspension to open the scoring after 15 minutes and Jhonata Batista doubled the lead four minutes before halftime.  It should have been plain sailing for the visitors, but several missed chances and conceding a goal to Drew Parsons with 18 minutes remaining made for a nervy end to the contest.

Addow’s goal came as he burst through the middle, latching on to a Batista flick after Gabriel Da Souza had cleared Boston’s lines, creating an instant attack and the powerful Ghanaian striker fired past the home keeper.  In the 28th minute, Addow received a yellow card and was withdrawn from the action by a Boston City coaching staff fearing a repeat of a second caution that reduced them to ten men in the home opening loss to New York Cosmos B.

Batista was twice denied by home keeper Will Pike, who also pushed away a fierce Pedro Da Silva effort, before Batista broke through again, and this time found the net for a 2-0 halftime lead.

Homero Morais was denied by Pike as his low effort was held after a slick move that led to a Da Silva cross.  Then Seacoast halted much of the Boston City progress through midfield that was also stifled by the withdrawal of skipper Ronaldo Vieira and mounted a comeback.

Parson halved the lead in the 72nd minute and the remaining period plus six minutes of stoppage time and Seacoast’s dogged resolve caused Boston City to defend desperately and cling on for what should have been three easier points.
