FC TACOMA 253 NAMED NORTHWEST CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS

FC Tacoma 253 played their last regular season match Sunday, defeating the Portland Spartans FC 2-0.

The win pushed Tacoma into the postseason, which was an incredible accomplishment for the first-year club. They had already competed in the U.S. Open Cup and now have the opportunity to play against the NPSL’s best.

FCT 253 was able to defeat Spartans FC thanks to goals from Gianmarco Peressini, who was playing in his last game with the team. Assists came from Gianfranco di Julio and Steve Pirotte with all of the offense coming in the first half. Tacoma dominated the entire match, never letting the opposing team register a shot on goal.

The win over Portland represented an incredible comeback for Tacoma, who had been six points behind the Spartans. FCT 253 won three straight to bring the regular season to a dramatic finish.

With the win, Tacoma can count five victories against the Portland Spartans FC, including one win in U.S. Open Cup qualifying, two in the NPSL, and two in the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL).

Many attribute the club’s success to having the right mix of Italian and American players.

“It has to be said that our guys were able to show a great game, also thanks to an Italian soccer coaching and mentality,” Club President Giuseppe Pezzano added. “We demonstrated better tactical and technical abilities.”

It’s also an exciting time for the organization’s WPSL team. The women are also looking to advance to the Regional Final and have three more games to do just that. Two of the matches come against the ISC Gunners, one of the team’s major rivals.
