THE WEST REGION LEADS THE WAY
The NPSL regular season is now underway with the West Region leading the way.
The San Diego Flash Soccer Club (1- 0-0) and FC Santa Clarita Storm (0- 0-1) met in San Diego for the Flash’s home opener of the 2014 NPSL regular season.
With an early goal at the 7th minute by San Diego’s Nathan Medina, the Flash set the tone in an impressive victory. The Flash prevailed by a final score of 3-1 over the visiting Storm in Mira Mesa on Saturday.
Goals by Flash players Alessandro Canale (17th minute) and Andy O’rtega (68th minute), showed the dominance of San Diego despite a single goal from Santa Clarita player Eduardo Medina, who scored for the Storm in the 73rd minute.
Although this was the regular season home opener for the San Diego Flash, it’s not their first match of 2014. The club is coming off two wins in preseason qualifying for the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
Other Saturday action included a 3-3 draw for Sonoma County Sol and Sacramento Gold, while FC Force defeated Del Rey City SC 4-3. Abraham James scored DRCSC’s first-ever goal in just the 10th minute.
Temecula FC fell to FC Hasental 8-1 on Sunday afternoon. Two goals from William Velasquez, Agustin Cazarez, and a goal a piece by Armando Gaitan, Carlos Benavides, Alberto Anguiano, and David Bakal insured the victory.
Late in the first half, Hasental’s early command of the match was threatened by a goal from Temecula FC striker, Joe Fredrickson. Hasental responded to the challenge by scoring five goals in the second half.
“There’s always a window of adjustment for new teams,” FC Hasental head coach Eric Warner said. “I’m am sure our next match against Temecula will be more competitive.”
