THE NPSL COMES TO SCRANTON, PA

The National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) is proud to announce that Electric City Shock SC (Scranton, PA) has joined the league as an expansion team. They will begin play in the Keystone Conference of the Northeast Region in 2014.

“It’s an exciting day for the Scranton soccer community with the announcement that a NPSL team is starting play in 2014,” NPSL Commissioner Michael Hitchcock declared. “We look forward to having the Electric City Shock join the NPSL’s Keystone Conference.”

Electric City’s front office is led by President Bill Rosado and General Manager James Rosado. James Bell will serve as head coach/assistant general manager and will be joined by assistant coaches Rob Havard and Chris Goetter.

Bell was recently named the head men’s Soccer Coach at Penn State Wilkes-Barre. He has played with the NPSL’s Pocono Snow for the past three seasons in addition to training and trials with Toronto FC, Harrisburg City Islanders, and Pittsburgh Riverhounds.

Havard, the current head coach at James M. Coughlin High School, holds both the NSCAA Advanced National Diploma as well as a National “B” license. Goetter has 17 years of coaching experience at the youth, high school, and collegiate level.

“We are very excited about joining the NPSL,” Bell stated. “Our team will be the future of soccer, here in the Electric City.”

Home matches will be held at Fitzpatrick Field, home of the University of Scranton Royals.

“We are excited and proud to join such a well-established and far-reaching league,” James Rosado added. “We look forward to growing as a club, and feel the NPSL offers us the best opportunity.”

The NPSL is a national league that operates in the 4th Division of the U.S. Soccer pyramid. NPSL teams are eligible to participate in the U.S. Open Cup through their affiliation with the U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF) and the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA). The NPSL is the fastest-growing national soccer league in the U.S., operating in 70+ markets across the country. Two Major League Soccer (MLS) clubs, D.C. United and the New York Red Bulls, operate U-23 squads in the NPSL.
