Omar Nuno Awarded the 2018 NPSL Golden Boot
Sonoma County Sol FC forward Omar Nuno has been awarded the 2018 NPSL Golden Boot after scoring 20 goals in league play this season.
“I’m very happy and proud to receive this award,” Nuno commented. “I want to thank my teammates as this award would not be possible without their hard work and play putting me in position to score. Scoring 20 goals in a very tough Golden Gate Conference is a big accomplishment for me. It’s a great honor to win the Golden Boot in the NPSL and I share this award with my team.”
The Sonoma County Sol FC standout received Offensive Player of the Year, Team MVP, All-League, and All-Empire honors as a varsity player at Healdsburg High School. Nuno then played two seasons at Santa Rosa Junior College, where he earned All-Conference and Conference MVP honors. He transferred to Chico State University, scoring 20 goals in two seasons. He was named First Team All-Conference and First Team All-Western Region during his time with the Wildcats.
“Omar has been huge for us all season,” Sonoma County Sol FC Head Coach Vinnie Cortezzo added. “But down the stretch when we needed to win every game to make the playoffs, he scored 10 goals in three games, including wins over second-place CD Aguiluchos USA and third-place East Bay FC Stompers. The team all shares in this honor, but Omar put the team on his back and carried us into the playoffs.”
Nuno has scored a total of 47 goals in four seasons with Sonoma County.
