Erie Commodores FC and Fort Pitt Regiment Finish in Scoreless Draw
The Commodores came into this match with the need for a result to keep the hopes for back-to- back conference crowns alive and only needed one point to clinch a playoff berth. Fort Pitt had everything to play for as they needed three points to keep their playoff hopes alive.
The match started out with both sides testing each other out with much of the play happening in the center of the park. Both teams were putting great sequences of passing together but nothing was materializing for looks at the frame. Erie managed to isolate Fort Pitt’s right back and right center back to create the first opportunity on frame in the first half. The Commodores continued their pressure but only managed two more opportunities for the first half.
Fort Pitt, on the other side, managed to test the Commodores back line to create five shots, but only two managed to find the hands of Erie goalkeeper Nicolau Neto. The teams would head to the dressing room for halftime with the score line at 0-0.
The second half would be much of the same thing as both teams struggled to create quality chances. The match started to get choppy with frustrations raising. In the 71st minute Erie’s Kwame Opoku picked up the match’s first booking of the night. For the next 10 minutes three more bookings would occur with the Commodores’ Jack Simpson getting booked and two Fort Pitt players going in the referee’s book as well.
The match would finish a scoreless draw and the teams sharing the points and Erie clinching a playoff berth for the second straight season.
