Boston City FC Defeats Greater Lowell NPSL FC 3-2
Boston City FC ended their NPSL season on a high note with a deserved 3-2 home win over Greater Lowell NPSL FC.
Three spectacular goals brought the home crowd to their feet, but a late Lowell strike made for a nervy finish as the Lions held on for only their second home win of the campaign.
The Ironsides Crew presented Jacob Wagmeister with their Man of the Year award after the match, honoring an impressive last six matches between the posts for a keeper who had waited patiently for his first start behind three other goalies.
Both sides had threatened to grab the lead and it was the visitors who drew first blood as Jordan Misiri raced beyond his marker after 15 minutes and fired across Wagmeister for a 1-0 lead.
An equalizer seemed on the cards and in the 28th minute, midfielder Pedro Silva chose the perfect time and goal to open his account after two seasons with the club as he unleashed an unstoppable screamer into the top corner from 30 yards out.
Visiting keeper Caden Blazek denied the Lions the lead on the stroke of halftime as he dived at full stretch to push a curling Rigoberto Jimenez finish around the post.
An even first fifteen minutes of the second half swung the way of Boston City on the hour mark. Captain Gabriel De Souza played a probing long ball down the right sideline, which Raffi Desouza chased to the end line and crossed for substitute Coby Handy to climb high and meet with a powerful header. The second goal in as many games for the Haitian striker gave the Lions a deserved 2-1 advantage.
Five minutes later, Santi Cardona lifted a 20-yard curler into the top left corner for his first Boston City goal and a 3-1 lead.
Lowell refused to submit, and their pressure was rewarded five minutes from time, but Jesse Weick’s finish proved only to be a consolation goal.
