RICHMOND STRIKERS WITH THE WIN AT HOME AGAINST FREDERICKSBURG FC

Richmond Strikers went on the board early at Striker Park Friday evening with a penalty kick in the 6th minute. Finnlay Wyatt stepped up to the penalty mark and blasted home the first goal of the game after Christian Jones was taken down in the box. This was the first of many times that the FFC defense was unable to handle Jones’ speed up top, but it was the only penalty kick of the match.
Only a few minutes after the penalty kick, Forrest White was able to put away his goal for the match as well. His speed was unmatched along the outside of play with a beautiful ball played through to him. FFC goalkeeper Connor Jones came up big on the first shot, but White earned it back and netted his second shot to put the Strikers up 2-0. FFC hit a couple great shots also in the first half with at least two that hit the post, keeping the score at 2-0 at the end of the first half.
The second half started up with both teams eager to put a goal away and was undoubtedly a physical match for the rival squads.
Both defensive sides stayed strong and held the score to 2-0 until the 90th minute where FFC midfielder Nick Rich lined himself up for a free kick. As Richmond Strikers fans remember from previous years when Rich played for the squad, his free kicks are not to be reckoned with most of the time. This instance was not an exception as his hit went into the uprights and Strikers keeper Drew Romig didn’t have a chance. Rich’s goal was moments before the last whistle and the game ended with the Strikers winning 2-1 over FFC.
