About the U.S. Open Cup
The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is the oldest ongoing national soccer competition in the U.S. The tournament is typically contested by over 100 clubs from professional and amateur leagues, however due to COVID-19, the 2021 tournament has been shortened to 16 participating teams. Of the 16 teams, 2 slots were awarded to the Open Division, of which the NPSL is part of. A draw was held on April 7 to determine the 2 teams, and no NPSL teams were chosen. Below is a list of the 13 NPSL teams that were eligible for the draw.
On April 16, U.S. Soccer decided to postpone the 2021 tournament to start later in 2021. Read the press release here.
