Three NPSL Alums Lead Pittsburgh Riverhounds to USL Championship Title

NPSL alums Charles Ahl, Jason Bouregy, and Beto Ydrach were all key contributors for Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC as they won the 2025 USL Championship title, defeating FC Tulsa 5-3 on penalty kicks after a 0-0 draw.

Both Ahl and Ydrach starred for the Central Florida Panthers SC, while Bouregy spent time with FC Motown.

Ahl played in 22 matches (13 starts), registering four goals. He started the final 10 matches of the year, including six regular season and four playoff matches. He was second on the team with 56 fouls won.

Winning a title as a professional player was a major accomplishment for Ahl.

“It means a lot for me personally,” Ahl said. “First and foremost, just because I’ve had a long year. I’m just coming from college, a quick transition into the professional ranks. It’s been a long, hard season, but I’m just thankful that Pittsburgh gave me a chance. I think we have got a lot of young guys on the team, a lot of guys trying to prove themselves to the league and to everyone, and we thought by winning a championship, that’s the best fit.”

Ahl spoke highly of his experience in the NPSL.

“The NPSL is a good summer league for sure,” Ahl said. “It keeps your ability up in the summer, gives you a place to play, training with quality players that are around town, and it gives you quality games too.”

Being reunited with Ydrach in the professional ranks has been a very positive move.

“I knew Beto from Orlando City when we were younger. Just being able to keep connections even at their academy ranks, and just seeing players succeeding in summer league can lead to successful college careers and professional careers.”

Bouregy played in 13 matches, including three starts. He made his professional debut on March 8th versus North Carolina FC.

Ydrach was a regular in the starting lineup, playing in 29 matches (27 starts). He tallied two assists and was second on the team with 111 clearances. Ydrach’s first pro goal was a game-winner in the U.S. Open Cup against New York City FC. He has been a key member of the Puerto Rico National Team, making 17 appearances at the international level. His most recent international appearance came against Argentina on October 14th.

The story of Charles Ahl, Jason Bouregy, and Beto Ydrach is just another example of NPSL alums that have found success at the professional level. And this story is just beginning.
