Shorthanded Katy Side Has Tough Time in Fort Worth
Katy 1895 FC was on the road for the second match in a row, this time taking on Fort Worth Vaqueros FC, Saturday night at Farrington Field in Fort Worth, Texas at 7:30 pm. The Vaqueros came away with a 5-2 win, improving to 5-1-1 on the season while the loss moved Katy to 1-0-5 on the season.
Katy only dressed 16 players for the match and saw three different players earn their first starts in a match without their head coach, who was serving a one-game suspension following his dismissal last weekend against Shreveport. Frustrating to say the least, Katy gave up two quick goals to start the match, going down 2-0 inside the 17th minute. The first, being a free kick on the top of the box in the 11th minute and the second goal coming from a counter-attack with a back-post header. Despite the early struggle, Katy kept working to find their rhythm and pulled a goal back in the 38th minute on a header by Sergio Loredo assisted on a cross by Devon Grant. The Vaqueros’ one-goal lead would not last long as they would score again shortly after on another counter attack in the 41st minute, to take a 3-1 lead. Katy would go into the break two goals down with 45 minutes left to get something out of the match.
Things looked bright for Katy at the very beginning of the second half, as they were finding success in the attacking third. Abdullah Mirza pulled another goal back for Katy playing a give-and-go with Josh Moore at the top of the box and finding the top left corner to pull within one goal in the 48th minute. The Vaqueros would answer back very quickly with two goals in two minutes, finding the back of the net in the 49th and 50th minutes to take the 5-2 lead. Neither team would score again after that as the match would finish 5-2. Katy had chances to get back into the game, but the Vaqueros had their crossbar and goalkeeper’s stellar play to thank for maintaining the three-goal lead.
Katy 1895 FC featured 15 players in the match with starters being Stephen Pham, Devon Grant, Jake Bates, Tyler Sivadon, Sydney Tume, Jordan Bates, Sergio Loredo, Josh Moore, Luka Lazarevic, Abdullah Mirza and Tutu Hernandez with Roger Lopez, Alan Albornoz, Dawson Palomar and Tristan Duffy coming off the bench.
“The team showed great character of not letting mistakes keep them from being competitive to the end,” Eddie Bloise said. “Despite the negative result, the quality of play is improving and offensively, the team created numerous opportunities but just lacked the final touch and I have to give credit to the Vaqueros keeper on making key saves during the match.”
