Mitchell, a standout midfielder at Butler University, was selected by the Chicago Fire with the first pick of the fourth round (62nd overall).
Mitchell, from Reckford Clarendon, Jamaica, began his collegiate career at Concordia College in Alabama, where he was named USCAA First Team All-American before transferring to Butler University prior to the start of the 2013 season. Mitchell appeared in 51 games for the Bulldogs, scoring 18 goals and adding eight assists. Mitchell’s 11 goals in his senior season earned him First Team All-Big East Conference honors in 2015.
Nelson, who played college soccer at Old Dominion University, was chosen with the 15th pick of the fourth round (76th overall) by the Seattle Sounders.
Originally from Austin, Texas, Nelson was named a First Team All-Conference USA selection selection during his senior year at Old Dominion in 2015, starting 15 matches at center back. He spent three years with the Monarchs after transferring from N.C. State following his freshman year.
Speed, who played at both the University of Kentucky and SMU, was selected by FC Dallas with the 17th pick of the fourth round (78th overall).
The 6-foot-3, 165-pound defender completed his senior season in 2015 playing in 22 games and picking up two assists for SMU. He becomes the third Vaqueros player to turn pro. Vaqueros goalkeeper Zak Downes and defender Damian Rosales joined the USL’s Arizona United following the 2014 NPSL season.
